The idea here was that you should be able to sit down in your own bedroom, and have a coffee without going downstairs for it.
The decisions
A stone headboard wall rather than upholstery. Harder, quieter, and it lets the television sit on it without the usual problem of a dark rectangle floating on a soft surface. The stone is lit from a recessed line at the ceiling so it is washed rather than spotted.
The corner is given to a chair and a small table, not to more storage. Almost every bedroom has a corner that becomes a clothes horse. Putting something deliberate in it is the only reliable fix.
The coffee station is behind joinery doors, in the run that would otherwise have been dead wall. Open in the morning, shut the rest of the time.
Details that matter
- Recessed ceiling line washing the stone, rather than downlights spotting it
- Boucle chair and a small pedestal table, sized so the corner is usable rather than symbolic
- Fluted timber to the reveals, softening the transition from stone to plaster
- Herringbone floor under a large rug, so the good floor still shows at the edges
